Everyone has heard the old English adage “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.” The four items are supposed to bring the new bride luck in her marriage. While something old, new and borrowed are often all personal touches, something blue can sometimes be a hard choice to narrow down. Here are some creative options for the last quarter of the saying.
The easiest option is shoes. Typically hidden under long gowns, blue shoes can be a cute pop of color when you’re walking down the aisle or twirling on the dance floor. It can also create a cute photo opportunity before the wedding.
Another option is to have the women who are accompanying you on your big day wear the blue for you. Your friends and family stand by you through the toughest of times. Having those closest to you bring you luck while you’re marrying the love of your life? It’s the perfect way to bring everyone together.
Including the blue in your floral arrangements is another gorgeous way to include the hue. The flowers are guaranteed to be in all your pictures, whether it’s your bouquet or your centerpieces or the groom’s boutonniere.
Finally, let the groom and his men carry some of the weight on your big day. Ask your soon-to-be husband if he’ll wear blue (or navy) to bring that luck into your marriage. Whether it’s his whole suit or just a pocket square and cufflinks, it’s a nice gesture between the two future newlyweds.
The old saying has evolved over the years since it was first iterated. These unique adaptations create some variety of the valued tradition. Have any fun ideas for something old, new, borrowed and blue? Let us know what you think on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
